It’s refreshing to connect with REAL indie music talent.

Recently, we crossed paths with Atlanta-based singer/songwriter/producer Cyrus and we had the opportunity to speak with him about his recent EP project titled Somthin About Her

Cyrus is one of the most talented, laid-back, and humble recording artists we’ve met.

At first glance, most would probably think Cyrus to be an athlete of some sort because he’s 6’ 4” lean build, and towers over most people in a crowd.

During our ice-breaker with Cyrus, we joked with him saying that he reminded us of Wiz Khalifa (post-working out and long locs) he laughed.

“Yeah, Wiz and I are about the same height.  Honestly, it’s rare that I see people that are taller than me.”

During the interview with Cyrus, he described to us that a majority of his wardrobe consists of joggers, hoodies, and other athleisure attire.

“This is just my style when it comes to fashion.  I’ve never been a fan of wearing denim on a regular basis.  Honestly, I’ve always been laid-back.  The only time I actually project my voice is in the studio (laughs).”

Aside from his amazing music-making abilities, one of the other interesting things about Cyrus is that he’s lived in Atlanta, GA all his life but doesn’t seem like he’s from Atlanta, AT ALL.

His non-regional diction made us think he was from one of the northern states or west coast. He later explained that his dad was from New York.

THE ALBUM

Being unbiased and objective, the album was well-executed from the songwriting, vocal production, music arrangement, and song order.

Cyrus was detailed in weaving together a story for the songs on the project.  There are 90s and early 2000s R&B vibes all throughout the album, which bring back feelings of nostalgia.

At first listen, many people will probably think, “Who is this guy and why haven’t I heard about him?” because the music production alone was so well done that it sounds like Cyrus has a whole production team when it’s just him and his audio engineer.

We enjoy music that paints a picture in your head as you’re listening.
Cyrus describes Somthin About Her as a story of love at first sight.

He says that the concept came to him after meeting a woman that he wanted to date.  She made him feel what he had lost for so long time -- the feeling of love.

The first track on the album titled ‘Arif’ is about the first impression.  Seeing the woman of interest, making his move to ask her out, and spending time with her.  She is with her friends so he invites them all out so that she will be more comfortable.

The song title ‘Arif’ meaning ‘cool’ in the Amharic language, is the name of a popular nightclub in Atlanta where Cyrus works.

“Calling the song ‘Arif’ just made sense to me, because I work in nightlife.”

Cyrus says his favorite record from the album is ‘Imitate love’.

“I’m a straight forward guy, so after dating for a while I figured it was time to take our relationship to the next level so instead of beating around the bush I simple asked her can we imitate love.... get it?” (laughs)

'Release” is more self-explanatory.  In the song, I’m talking about giving her “the business” and showing me her wild side.

"In 'Bass' I’m describing my admiration for the woman she is.  She’s a dancer so I love to see he dance in and out the bedroom.  The passion she puts into her craft of being a dancer made me want to push harder in my music.”

The last record on the album, “Feelin of love” talks about how after spending time with this woman and really appreciating everything about her, he finally started to feel like he could love again.

“The song is an expression of why she makes me feel like I’m in love.” - Cyrus

The Somthin About Her EP certainly accomplishes that goal.

We give the project two thumbs up and suggest that you grab your phone and open your music streaming app (Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, etc.) and search ‘Somthin About Her’ by Cyrus and listen the album
